BHEL's 2025 Engineer Trainee drive did not use GATE. Candidates took BHEL's own computer-based exam (240 questions in 150 minutes), and about five candidates per vacancy were called for interview. Final merit was 75% exam and 25% interview. Trainees start at ₹50,000 basic.

- Full-time BE/BTech, five-year integrated master's or dual degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Electronics, Chemical or Metallurgy (2025 disciplines)
- Upper age limit 27 years on 01.02.2025, or 29 with a two-year full-time PG in engineering or management
- Age relaxation: SC/ST 5 years, OBC 3 years, PwBD 10 years

As reported from the 2025 notification, trainees get ₹50,000 basic (₹50,000–1,60,000 scale) during the one-year training and move to ₹60,000–1,80,000 after it, with an approximate CTC of ₹12 lakh a year.
