Siemens / Siemens Energy
Core · core branches incl. EE, ME, ECE· Updated
Siemens and Siemens Energy hire engineering freshers in India as Graduate Trainee Engineers or Graduate Engineer Trainees, mostly through campus drives: a 91-question, 80-minute online test, then technical and HR interviews that are sometimes merged into one. Electrical candidates are asked about substations, motors and transformer protection. Reported trainee pay is about ₹4–7 LPA.

Questions to expect in Siemens / Siemens Energy interviews
Drawn from reported fresher tests and interviews (sources below), with short answers. Practise more on placd.
What is a Buchholz relay and why is it useful?
A gas-actuated relay fitted in the pipe between the main tank and the conservator of an oil-filled transformer. Slow gas build-up from minor internal faults (insulation breakdown, core hot spots) tilts the upper float and raises an alarm. A severe fault causes an oil surge that operates the lower float and trips the breaker. It also acts on loss of oil.
Explain armature speed control of a DC series motor and draw its graph.
Speed N is proportional to (V - Ia(Ra + Rse + R)) / flux. Adding a variable resistance R in series with the armature lowers the voltage across the motor, so speed falls below base speed. Each added resistance gives a lower, steeper speed-current curve. The method is simple but wasteful, since I^2R loss in the rheostat grows with load current.
What does the vector group Dyn11 mean?
D: HV winding connected in delta. y: LV winding in star. n: the LV neutral is brought out, giving a 3-phase 4-wire supply. 11: the LV phasor sits at the 11 o'clock position with HV at 12, so the LV side leads the HV side by 30 deg. It is the common choice for distribution transformers.
Two motors have the same power rating but different voltages. Which draws less current?
The higher-voltage motor. For a 3-phase motor P = root3 x V x I x pf x efficiency, so at equal power, power factor and efficiency the line current is inversely proportional to voltage. This is why large motors are built for higher voltages: lower current means thinner cables and lower I^2R loss.
Which side of a transformer has more turns, high voltage or low voltage?
The HV side. Voltage per turn is the same on both windings (V1/N1 = V2/N2), so the higher-voltage winding needs proportionally more turns. It carries less current, so it uses thinner conductor, while the LV winding has fewer turns of thicker conductor.
Which has higher conductivity, aluminium or copper, for the same cross-section?
Copper. Its conductivity is about 5.8 x 10^7 S/m against roughly 3.5-3.8 x 10^7 S/m for aluminium (about 61% of copper). For the same resistance an aluminium conductor needs about 1.6 times the area, but it is much lighter and cheaper, which is why overhead lines use aluminium (ACSR).
About Siemens / Siemens Energy hiring
What is the Siemens GET salary for freshers in India?
Reported base pay is about ₹4–5 LPA (average ₹5 LPA) for Siemens Graduate Trainee Engineers across 127 salaries, and ₹4–7 LPA (average ₹5 LPA) for Siemens Energy Graduate Engineer Trainees across 18 salaries. These are self-reported figures, not an official offer.
What is the Siemens online test pattern?
Two reported drives had 91 MCQs in 80 minutes on Mercer Mettl. The 2023 Siemens Energy electrical GET drive split it into aptitude, verbal and electrical-domain sections; a Siemens GTE off-campus test had four timed sections running from aptitude to computer fundamentals.
What technical questions does Siemens ask electrical freshers?
A 2023 Siemens Energy GET candidate was asked about substation parts, types of motors, DC series motor speed control, induction motor working, Buchholz relay, transformer components, oil and cooling, vector group Dyn11, protection schemes, motor starters, and which of two equal-power motors draws less current.
